I dont normally do “product or treatment” reviews on my blog but I felt like I’d make an exception for this one as
A. I am kinda obsessed with my hair.
B. It is one of those treatments that you hear people talking about it and wonder to yourself “I wonder if I should do it….” which is what I did for over a year! I thought it might be of interest.
So first of all I have always had really thick, untameable naturally waivy and curly hair. Great for creating the messed up “just got out of bed” look but slick and neat look not so good. I have tried many different looks and styles (2 tone 90′s bleached front being a particular low), blonde highlights which everyone now says looked “brassy”, up, down, beehived, straightened, curled, fringe, no fringe, side swept and currently have a close shaved undercut on one side, so I do like to give most things a try.
For the last few months, I have been going for my weekly blowdry at Herseson’s BDB at Topshop Oxford Circus, and getting it straightened, which lasts me a week, so a proceedure which was going to eliminate the need for this seemed like an economic and time saving obvious progression. However, I was scared that the treatment was going to somehow ruin or kill my already fragile locks. The first thing to know about the Brazilian Blow Dry is that its a “treatment” for the hair and is therefore good for it, rather than doing any damage. It does sound too good to be true but now that I’ve experienced it, I know they’re telling the truth. Rather than use chemicals, the proceedure involves coating your hair in a super thick conditioner which somehow takes the curl out. After I first had it done, my hair felt very heavy and greasy with the product, but as the week wore on, it wore off and gradually I could feel its condition improving. I managed to avoid water and rain for a week which is quite easy for me ( I think most people can’t bear to leave it more than 4 days which is the advice they give you) and then came the moment of truth…….I had to wash it!!!!
During the washing process, amazingly it appeared to be still straight, but I spotted a few wavy hairs that were making me a bit nervous. I did blow dry it as I had to go meet someone, but normally this could take me at least an hour and a half to do myself and it only took less than an hour! The results were pretty much the same as if I’d had it professionally blow dried but I had achieved it myself so already I was happy! Then when I left the house it immediately started to rain but MIRACULOUSLY my hair remained untouched….ie no frizz or matting so I couldn’t run my hands through it which is what would have happened before. I know I am not the only chick out there who suffers with rain/hair phobia….Trying to keep your hair do in tact with the endless London rain is nothing short of a lost cause at times so being able to go out with out that is SO LIBERATING and makes it worth every penny. You feel like shouting up to the heavens “ha ha you can’t touch this”.
I can’t see any drawbacks to this treatment – I waited a long time before doing it as I had asked loads of other people for their experiences and opinions first (including my assistant) and no-one I know has had anything bad happen to them. It will definitely change your life.
Well here’s a couple of photos to illustrate my point….
BEFORE…..Major frizz going on.

And NOW I am magically transformed…..
